Frequently Asked Questions

If I change from a 3-day class to a 5-day, is there an additional registration fee?

No. As long as there is available space on the class roster, you can transfer. The tuition difference will be reflected on your subsequent statements.

What happens if we get transferred out of the area mid-year?

We require a minimum 30-day written notice. If this is not submitted prior to withdrawal, the parent is responsible for one month's tuition in full.

What form of communication is used between school and parent?

Each child has a folder that is taken home and returned each school day. Calendars, newsletters and announcements are sent via the folders. In addition, we use email and REMIND.com for individual class and school announcements.

Are teachers available if I have questions?

Yes. Our teachers strive to have a close relationship with their families.  Simply let your teacher know if you have questions or concerns, and she will arrange a time to call you for a chat.

Are there parent-teacher conferences?

Yes. Our Kindergarten and First Grade teachers hold conferences with her parents after the first quarter of the school year. For the 2-year-old through PreK classes, conferences are held in February.

Do I need to accompany my child into the building at drop-off?

Yes. We require that each parent sign their child in each morning, and sign them out at dismissal. This is a safety measure that transfers responsibility between parent-school and school-parent. Plus, you have the advantage of seeing the teacher each day and making lots of friends in the hallways!

Do you serve a snack each day?

No. All food is provided by the parents for snack time and Lunch Bunch. Our school is tree-nut-free and peanut-free. We count on our parents to be diligent in this matter.

What days will school be closed?

The Oak Grove Schoo has our own school-year calendar. We are open from the Wednesday following Labor Day until the Wednesday of Memorial Day weekend.

We have 2½ weeks off for Christmas, are closed the day before Thanksgiving, and either Good Friday or Easter Monday.  In addition, there are several teacher workdays in our calendar as well as national holidays and spring break.  A calendar is distributed to each family at Open House and can be found on our Parents page.

We moved to Virginia over the summer and my 2 and 5 year old started in the Tiny Turtles (2’s) and Kindergarten in September. The teachers and staff immediately put us at ease and made us feel at home. The teachers provided a fun, nurturing environment for children to thrive as students. We believe that this environment increased our children’s level of understanding, comprehension, and teamwork, both inside and outside the classroom.

The teachers and staff genuinely got to know my children and family and would check in with me when my daughter was missing her dad on a business trip or when my son was potty training.  It’s these little, but big things that helped us feel so connected to everyone at the school. Oak Grove is a wonderful place to be and we feel so lucky that are kids are being so loved while in preschool and kindergarten.
